The Scottish thistle has long been a symbol of strength, defence and resilience. According to Scottish folklore, the thistle helped save Scotland during the Battle of Largs in the 13th century. It is said that invading Viking warriors tried to approach silently under cover of darkness, but one stepped on a prickly thistle and cried out, warning the Scots and helping them defeat the attack.

Today, the thistle remains Scotland’s national flower and a proud symbol of Scottish identity. The anniversary of the Battle of Largs is still celebrated in the town of Largs each year.
